The social media trends for 2025 💅

Oh, what a week we’ve had! TikTok is officially set to be banned in the USA if it doesn’t sell, Bluesky is getting more and more popular, X has released more new features no one really wants, and so much more.

Instead of me spoiling all the good stuff up top, let’s dive deep.

My favorite day of the internet is finally here—the day Pinterest makes its yearly trend predictions.

Based on *~data~* AKA: what people have been searching more and more for, Pinterest rounds it all up in a handy-dandy report for us to consume and take from it what we will.

And honestly? You should take a lot of it as Pinterest says 80% of its predictions usually are correct. Hot dang. 

This year, Pinterest Predicts rolled out with its very own website, where you can explore the top predictions, and dive deep into each topic people are searching for more and more.

One of the best parts of Pinterest Predicts is how it highlights how brands and businesses can jump on the trend to get ahead for 2025.

• So long, sweet LinkTree. Adding links in one place is finally incorporated inside Instagram.
  
  

• Threads is working on a Creator hub … what it’s useful for? Nobody knows.
  
  

• New labels have launched on X to highlight if an account is a parody account. I guess Musk was tired of people thinking the Fake Musk was him.
  
  

• TikTok is working on even more ways to get users to spend money in the app.
  
  

• Woah, woah, woah. Bluesky is going all in and creating a subscription product.
  
  

• Would you look at that? BeReal (yes, it’s still a thing) has officially launched ads in the app. I guess they needed a way to make money.

It seems more and more likely. The federal appeals court decided to uphold the ruling that TikTok’s parent company has to sell or face a ban in the USA. 

Yikes. 

How will the ban work?

Well, it means that the app can’t be available to download inside App Stores. However, if you already have the app, it won’t be deleted from your phone. While this sounds good, it also means your app won’t be updated and will slowly stop being usable as the months go by. 

Quite a few people are coming out of the woodwork to pitch buying TikTok, but it remains to be seen if ByteDance (the parent company) is even considering selling. 

With the January 16th deadline approaching, I find it hard to imagine that TikTok will go down without a fight — especially with the number of users and creators on the platform who make serious money on the app.
