Something big is coming to YouTube Shorts! 👀

Well, I hate to say it, but the holidays are around the corner and it looks like TikTok and Meta are helping you figure out the best way to market to your audience.

But if you’re like me and want to live in the MoMenT and not think about the holidays just yet, I’ve got a great roundup of social media news from this week that you need to know about.

From YouTube Shorts to Threads to all the new TikTok features, here’s all the latest news from the week:

Last week, YouTube announced some major changes coming to Shorts — and it’s making it easier than ever to create short-form videos! Huzzah!

What changes are coming? Let’s get into it:

🎥 Longer Shorts: Starting next week, you’ll soon be able to create 3-minute Shorts. Yes, YouTube is also jumping on the longer short-form video train. Seems counter-intuitive but what do I know?

🎥 Templates: Oh, yes. YouTube is stealing Template ideas from Instagram. You’ll soon be able to recreate Shorts you like with templates. All you have to do is click “Remix” and give it a go yourself.

🎥 Veo: Google’s AI-generated video is being introduced to YouTube Shorts—so yes, get ready to see even more AI-generated videos on your Shorts.

🎥 Trends: Want to get on top of trends? YouTube is adding a new Shorts trends page on your phone!

🎥 Personalization: YouTube wants your FYP to be more … FY. You can now let YouTube know if you don’t like videos to add more customization to your feed.

A new way to engage your followers has arrived to TikTok and it’s called Flip Story!

You can now add a second side to your story that can be flipped to reveal another photo (ohhh laaa laaa!).

Why? Well, I guess because it’s a fun little feature to get people to interact with your Story.

If you want to try Flip Story yourself, click the “+” button and scroll to create a Story.

From here, you’ll be able to select “Flip Story” and upload two images—one that is your original story and another that is hidden.

And before anyone asks, yes the photo is given the same moderation as the rest of TikTok—so nothing scandalous, please!

The top trending sounds and songs you need to use to go viral this week. 

🍁 It's Officially Fall: This trend uses the seasonal theme of fall and a touch of suspense to create anticipation and engagement. It starts by declaring the arrival of a fall, then it reveals a related event, product, activity, or celebration, creating a sense of excitement and relevance.

🤜 Scram!: This trend uses a comedic, over-the-top reaction to express frustration or indignation in various relatable scenarios. The creator acts out a scene, often involving an imagined third party being bothered or disrespected. The punchline is always the same: a dramatic "Scram!” followed by "Leave her alone!", delivered with mock anger and a defensive posture.

🚫 Toxic Person: This trend humorously encourages people to avoid negative or unhelpful advice or opinions. It presents scenarios where a "toxic person" offers their two cents, prompting the creator to literally walk away and advise viewers to do the same figuratively.

😬 Do You Have A Plan?: Use this audio to humorously illustrate a situation where you’re either unprepared, evasive or improvising. This trend resonates because it captures the universal experience of feeling caught off guard and trying to appear composed despite being unprepared.
