It’s time to BeReal 👀

The world of social media is all about stealing other app's ideas and making them your own ... or at least, that's what TikTok and Instagram have been up to over the past few weeks. 😬

With TikTok under fire and BeReal trying to stay relevant, it seems like Instagram wants to take a backseat this week ... which only means it's going to announce a new feature soon (it's been a whole day since it has released something!). 

You got your coffee? Good. Let's dive in. 

Well, it seems like all of our favorite social media apps are stealing ideas from each other and the number one app people are stealing from? BeReal. 

The Gen Z-loving app has been gaining traction quickly over the past year and it looks like all social media apps are running to capture the magic of BeReal. 

TikTok has announced TikTok Now, which will have users share a selfie using the front and back camera at a random time each day. 

Yeah, sounds familiar, right? 😬

The new feature will be given its own separate tab in the app, and in some regions outside the US, a whole new app. 

Wut. 

It’ll be very interesting to see what happens with this new feature and/or new app. Will BeReal finally have to start doing something different or will people still want to separate their TikTok lives and their Be(ing)Real lives? Only time will tell.

• Looks like YouTube shorts are going the way of TikTok, as you can now reply to comments with videos. 

   

• Instagram wants you to start making Reels from your Stories and are making it super easy to do.

  
  

• Trying to find trending songs on TikTok? They’ve got a newsletter for that.

   

• TikTok full of misinformation? Say it ain’t so! But according to new research, it appears so. 

   

• Snapchat on desktop? Yes, you can finally send those snaps via your computer … why you would want to is beyond me. 

Well, well, well. YouTube is making some major moves against TikTok and if they do it right, TikTok will majorly feel the heat. 

In a leaked audio, it’s been announced that YouTube will launch ads in YouTube Shorts where creators will get a cut of the ad revenue.

As more and more creators get frustrated with how TikTok isn’t paying well for viral videos, this could be a major game changer for YouTube which has seen a decline in views since TikTok has become the number one app online.

It sure seems like it. Last week, TikTok COO Vanessa Pappas had to appear before the US Senate to talk all about how the app impacts democracy, and TikTok’s connections and obligations to the CCP. 

Yiiiiiiikes.

And it seems like her answers didn’t sway the government to be fully on-board the TikTok train. 

While TikTok is trying to work with the US, including moving all US user data to Oracle data centers in the US, Pappas was skirting around the topic on whether US user info could be shared beyond the platform.

Double yiiiiiiiikes. 

If TikTok can’t figure out a way to make the US trusting of the app, it seems the US could make moves to ban it much like India did in 2020.

With other apps quickly releasing features that are eerily similar to what makes BeReal so dang popular, it’s now time to figure out what’s next for the authenticity app.

While BeReal’s founders are pretty tight lipped about anything and everything to do with the app, it looks like advertising might not be in the works but something a bit different—paid features and subscriptions. 

And with other apps copying them, now is the time to start figuring out new ways to monazite and get users to continue using its platform.
