Ā Ā
Itās 2025, and I have been doing this newsletter for four years now (honestly, where does the time go?!). I feel like we need a shake-upāa refresh, if you will.Ā
To help me make sure I am giving you all the content you want, Iād love for you to give me some feedback (and Iāll even give you a chance to win a $20 gift card!).
Fill out the survey here and Iāll love you forever.Ā
Now, on to todayās newsletter! And itās a stacked one! Whenever I think social media platforms canāt possibly do any more features or releases, they continue to surprise me.Ā
Mainly surprise me by giving us features no one asked for and completely ignoring the ones people do ask for. š
I digressā¦Ā
Hereās this weekās social media newsāthe good, the bad, and the weird.Ā |
Reddit paywalls are coming š |
Honestly, WTF?! Sorry, but why are all social media platforms asking users to pay to use its platforms?!Ā
*Deep breaths, Mackenzie. Deep breaths.*
Reddit CEO Steve Huffman said last week that Reddit will start introducing a new subreddit that has āexclusive content or private areasā that users will have to pay to access.Ā
While I guess I can understand other platform's use of paid models, when it comes to Reddit, I am left scratching my head. Unless Reddit is going to offer the moderators the money for those subreddits (because HELLO, moderating can be a full-time job!), Iām confused as to why there needs to be paid subreddits at all.Ā
The other big thing coming to Reddit this year is monetizing interactions. As users already buy from others on the platform, Reddit wants to figure out new ways to make that easier and really cash in on these transactions.Ā
I guess like Facebook Marketplace but on Reddit? Could be a good idea. Maybe. Potentially. Perhaps.
š
What are your thoughts? Do you see a perk to subreddits behind a paywall? Or do you feel like this is another cash grab from a social media company?Ā

Meta glasses are becoming cool? š |
With over a million pairs of Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses selling in 2024 and the potential of 5 million being sold at the end of 2025, it seems like Meta smart glasses are finally cool.Ā
Four years after its official launch...
I, for one, have seen a massive uptick in people using them. Not only influencers online who are walking around their city explaining how much they love their glasses in the caption followed by #ad, but people on the trains and buses I use daily.Ā
The glasses use Meta AI so you can control your glasses with your voice. Ā It also has an in-built camera, open-ear speakers for you to listen to music, an app for you to look through the content youāve captured, and the ability to call and message people.Ā
Are you on the Meta smart glasses train? Will my FOMO win out in the end and Iāll purchase them in the future too? Ā Only time (and the quality of the photos and videos) will tell. |
