What a jam-packed week! We've got Instagram dropping new features to protect teens, YouTube announcing its biggest update ever, Amazon possibly buying a certain social media platform (say wut?), and SO much more. Ā It's time to get into this week in social: |
Instagram is working on protecting the teensāor at least, adding teen accounts into the platform. Ā
The new teen accounts, which have officially rolled out in the UK, US, Canada and Australia, will turn privacy settings on by default for anyone under 18. Ā Plus, all accounts will be private and content will be unviewable to those people that donāt follow them. Ā
Parents who have chosen to supervise their kidās accounts will be able to view who their kid is messaging and also what topics they tell Instagram theyāre interested in. However, they will not be able to see the actual messages sent in DMs. Ā
But how will Instagram know if a teen is lying about their age? In the US, itāll be using AI to detect if a user is lying. Itās unclear how itāll work in other countries. Ā One thing is for sure, teens tend to find a way to get around restrictions so will see how quickly that happens with this new account. š |
