Instagram Reels is getting its own app 😳

It always amazes me that each week, there seems to be an endless amount of things to talk about when it comes to social media. 

Meta seems to release about a million and one things just to see what sticks—most of the things are things people hate. Whoops. X does whatever X wants to do. TikTok seems to act like it’s not getting banned very, very soon in the States. 

Eeek!

And guess what?! This week is no different! Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube, and TikTok all are doing the most. Here’s what they all have released this week:

What, the what? Yup, Instagram could potentially be creating a separate app strictly for Reels. 

According to a report from The Information, the Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, recently spoke about the idea of a new app to staff. 

The app would be an even more direct competitor of TikTok, and now that Reels can be up to 3 minutes long, a separate app might be a good idea. 

However, if a new app is created for Reels, does that mean Reels are removed from Instagram, and we finally get our photo-only app back?

Because I would massively be on board for that … but I really couldn’t see that happening anytime soon.

Yes, another app from Meta. 

Last week, it was announced that Meta will be releasing a standalone app for Meta AI. 

As The Zuck works hard on making Meta one of the leaders of artificial intelligence in 2025, this seems the logical next move to be a direct competitor of OpenAI. 

While nothing has been confirmed (or denied), Zuckerberg responded to a comment on Threads about a standalone app being needed with an emoji that seems to confirm the fact.
