Well, it definitely hasn't been quiet in the land of social media recently.

From X being banned to Instagram's latest features to Bluesky finally being relevant, here's everything you need to know (and more!) about social media this week. 

Hello, Instagram? 2008 called and wants its MySpace back.

I’ll admit here, I thought this feature had already been released as I was part of the initial Beta test and have had this for months (humble brag). However, it seems the test went well, as Instagram now allows users to add music to their profile.

It’s giving MySpace and I’m kind of here for it.

And to help them officially launch the new feature, Instagram teamed up with Sabrina Carpenter to do a little “Taste” of her new song.

Talk about a collab!

It seems Instagram is leaning in hard on music in the app—between signing new deals with Universal Music Group, creating “Add Your Music” stickers to Stories, song lyrics being displayed in Reels, and more.

With TikTok still at risk of being banned in the US, it’s a good move from IG to really capture all the music it can.

The writing was on the wall and it’s officially happened: X is banned in Brazil.

Brazil’s Supreme Court said in a statement that X is spreading fake news and hate speech and this is the country’s way of putting a stop to that.

In the ruling, the Supreme Court explained X is creating “an environment of total impunity and lawlessness in Brazilian social networks” and if anyone is caught using a VPN to use X, they will be fined nearly $9000.

Yeeesh.

The way Brazil has executed on the ban will be similar to what the US is planning on doing to TikTok if it doesn’t sell. And it doesn’t really seem to bode well for anyone. 😬

TikTok has officially launched group messaging—in a serious attempt to get people to start engaging and messaging more on the app.

At the moment, Instagram and Snapchat are the #1 platforms Gen Zers message on, and it looks like TikTok wants to be in on the action.

With TikTok usage declining for the past year and time spent on Instagram increasing, TikTok has to do some serious work to get people interested in the platform again.

But I, for one, am not sure if group messaging is the answer.
