As if we didnā€™t already know, Instagram really really (really really really!) wants us to be using Reels. Like, really really.
In a recent earnings call, Meta announced that Reels now makes up more than 20% of the time that people spend on the app per day, so if youā€™re not already making Reels, you need to get on it. ASAP.
And now with them recently releasing a third-party API so you can track your metrics, thereā€™s no excuse to not be using Reels and monitoring what works vs doesnā€™t work on your account.

If thatā€™s not enough for you, how about Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, saying that IG is working on consolidating ALL of Instagramā€™s video options around Reelsā€”which means all videos that have been created on the app will now be converted to Reels instead.

According to IG, ā€œyou can also use creative features like augmented reality effects, custom audio, and timers to keep things fresh.ā€
Match the rhythm: Similar to TikTok, you want to make sure your video/photos sync with the music! When it comes to Reels, unlike Stories, over 80% of people watch Reels with the sound on. Also, be sure to use captions for those who are hearing impaired.
Keep it on-trend: Instagram says you must ā€œstay in touch with the latest, and use the newest effects on Reels.ā€ Use a challenge, trending topics, or take part in pop culture moments that are happening! Ask people to remix your Reels or have a conversation in your comments. It will help boost your engagement and have more opportunities to make your Reel go viral.
Explore collaborations: Work with creators or influencers to share your brand! ā€œCampaigns that include Branded Content ads saw 123% lift in awareness, 112% lift in association, and 67% lift in consideration and motivation, showing that creators can help boost brand impact.ā€ So, according to that fact, working with creators is seriously going to help you.
